Christmas Eve box ideas

How to put together a personal Christmas Eve box, starting with the box itself.

Wooden crate lettered “Becca’s Christmas Advent Box” with green trees, a deer and Santa’s sleigh

A Christmas Eve box is a little bundle opened on the night before Christmas, often holding new pyjamas, a festive film, a book, hot chocolate or something for Santa’s visit. Here’s how to build one with a personal touch, starting with the box.

1. Choose your box: finished or DIY

There are two routes.

A finished crate arrives already lettered with the child’s name. There’s nothing to make, and it can come out again every year.

DIY decals let you letter a crate you already have. The crate isn’t included. The decals are sized for a crate 40cm wide with a 7cm top bar and 8cm bottom bar, and Fliss can resize them if you message her first.

Not sure which suits you? Read finished crate or DIY decal.

2. Don’t forget the pets

3. Add something for Santa and the reindeer

These are finished items you can pop in the box.

4. Wrap the extras

If you’d prefer a bag to a crate, or want one for presents on the day:

5. Or count down the whole of December

The same crates work as a December 1st box, or for an advent of books or small presents. Number decals turn any set of boxes or parcels into an advent calendar.

Order in good time

Everything is made to order, and delivery times change through December. Each Etsy listing shows the current dispatch and delivery estimate, so check it before you rely on a particular date.
